Week 1: January 27 - February 2

Welcome to Week 1 of the #GoalsProject!

Today, we are thrilled to officially kick-off the project with you! We welcome you to the project and thank you for joining with us to support students to take action for people and planet through the Sustainable Development Goals!

Classroom objectives this week:

  1. Introduce the Sustainable Development Goals to your students
  2. Meet our Goals Project Student Ambassadors
  3. Invite your students to share a message introducing your class to the other classes in the project

NOTE: Be sure to select your Global Goal and join the corresponding educator WhatsApp group THIS WEEK!

Objective 1: Meet the Global Goals
Here are ideas and resources to support you as you and your students get to know the Goals:

  • Print the Global Goals poster and the 17 Goals icon posters and post them in your classroom (select Non-UN Entities)
  • Share related videos:
    • ‘We The People’ for the Global Goals
    • World’s Largest Lesson with Emma Watson
    • Just a Kid
  • Share about the #GoalsProject and look at the Google map of the classrooms around the world joining in.  Google Map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=136ku5LhGLaU6mbN4ojZCBkDLp7PmSZI&usp=sharing
  • Have an open class discussion. Discuss how “kids” can make a difference in the world by 2030. Why is it important for students to be involved? What does it mean to take action?
  • Share that your classroom will have one Global Goal for the project. Build excitement and suspense all week long by letting students make predictions, guesses, and wishes. At the end of the week, reveal your Class Goal by placing the Goal number (or printed icon) in a sealed envelope or in a wrapped box. Reveal the Goal and celebrate! (select your Goal HERE)

Objective 2: Meet our Goals Project Student Ambassadors
In recognizing the importance of student voice and the value in having students learn from students, we are thrilled to announce our Goals Project Student Ambassadors, Ayush Chopra, Ananya Chopra, and Namya Joshi.

Ayush, Ananya, and Namya will be joining all project long, sharing videos for your students!
