Final Update w/ Next Steps
Though our #GoalsProject month is coming to an end, the work in supporting students to approach the Global Goals through curiosity, resolve, and ACTION is just beginning.
This final update is an invitation to continue the work you have started and to make this school year a YEAR OF TAKING ACTION!
Classroom objectives:
- Reflect on Week 1-4 learning and conclude your #GoalsProject work
- Develop your plan for NEXT STEPS!
- Plan an activity to “welcome” each Goal to the classroom (may extend past September)
Objective 1: Reflect on Week 1-4 learning and conclude your Class Goal Project
- STUDENT WORK: Now is the time to submit your Class Goal Project. Complete the FORM that corresponds to your group number to share your Class Project. Remember, the process is the priority; no need for perfectly polished final projects. Your final project can be the fully developed concept or even just a question your class came to ask. The special part is the participation and collaboration with others. If you are planning to finish up in the coming weeks, please still submit and simply add a note with the anticipated completion date to let your group members know to check back.
- TEACHER SURVEY AND CERTIFICATE: Please complete this final survey. ← Following completion, a link to an official certificate of participation will be provided to you as the lead #GoalsProject classroom teacher.
Objective 2: Work with your students to develop your plan for NEXT STEPS.
“The journey of 1,000 miles starts with one single step.” --Lao Tzu. We thank you and your students for taking that one single step in joining the #GoalsProject. For us, this is just the beginning, and we invite you to continue the “journey of 1,000 miles” with us.
- Watch Ayush’s Celebration video with your students.
- Invite students into a discussion on ways to keep the learning going all year long.
Join our next projects:
- Climate Action Project, starts October 1st REGISTER HERE!
- Take Action Project, Spring 2020, Follow Follow @TakeActionEdu and SIGN-UP HERE FOR UPDATES!
More projects/programs for consideration:
- Don’t forget to take the Pledge to TeachSDGs (application for TeachSDGs Ambassadorship now open)
- PlantED Project, open for participation now, REGISTER HERE!
- Sea Turtle Project, November, Register HERE!
Objective 3: Plan an activity to “welcome” each Goal to the classroom
As classrooms complete the Google forms, information will be curated in Group spreadsheets. You have been emailed an invitation to view your Group Google spreadsheet. Be sure to set the Notifications to receive emailed alerts when other projects are submitted.
As we finish up, we invite you to continue to share your class creations, your new learning, and the impact at local and global levels on social media with #GoalsProject hashtag.
Let’s trend the positive this week and show the world the power of educators:

Week 3 and 4 Message:
Welcome to Week 3 of the #GoalsProject! This update is packed full of information and will cover Week 3 and Week 4. The final email update will come at the conclusion of the project on September 29-30 and will include a certificate of completion and ideas for next steps and extension activities.
Classroom objectives for these next two weeks:
Objective 1: Reflect on Week 1-2 learning and complete your Class Goal Project
Wakelet board, Padlet board, or Book Creator ebook link: Photos of artwork, photos of written stories
Adobe Spark Page or Weebly Education website link
Videos/photos of school/community campaign, an invention or experiment, an event, a constructed model of a city
Word doc or Google doc link: Written stories, letter to policy maker or politician
Objective 2: Submit your Class Goal Project
Complete the FORM that corresponds to your group number to share your Class Project.
Objective 3: Hear from Ayush, our #GoalsProject Student Ambassador
Our Week 3-4 #GoalsProject Student Ambassador Update from Ayush is ready for sharing!
In the video, Ayush talks about the power of sharing a message. Engage students in a conversation to think on ways they may want to amplify the story of their Class Goal Project. Perhaps they want to share with the school in a school-wide presentation or in the school newsletter. Maybe they want to share the idea out with the community or local policy makers. Start to think together on ways to start small to create big impact beyond your classroom walls.
Objective 4: Plan an activity to “welcome” each Goal to the classroom
As classrooms complete the Google forms, information will be curated in Group spreadsheets. You have been emailed an invitation to view your Group Google spreadsheet. Be sure to set the Notifications to receive emailed alerts when other projects are submitted.
Classroom objectives for these next two weeks:
- Reflect on Week 1-2 learning and complete your Class Goal Project
- Submit your Class Goal Project
- Hear from Ayush, our #GoalsProject Student Ambassador
- Plan an activity to “welcome” each Goal to the classroom (may extend past September)
Objective 1: Reflect on Week 1-2 learning and complete your Class Goal Project
- Review all the 17 SDGs and remind students of your own class Global Goal.
- Check in on the Project Flipgrid (still time to jump in) and the Community Padlet Resource Board.
- Complete your own Class Goal Project. Your final project will need to conclude with a shareable link. Remember, all types of projects are welcome.
- Though there are MANY types of projects and ways to share, here are a few examples:
Wakelet board, Padlet board, or Book Creator ebook link: Photos of artwork, photos of written stories
Adobe Spark Page or Weebly Education website link
Videos/photos of school/community campaign, an invention or experiment, an event, a constructed model of a city
Word doc or Google doc link: Written stories, letter to policy maker or politician

Objective 3: Hear from Ayush, our #GoalsProject Student Ambassador
Our Week 3-4 #GoalsProject Student Ambassador Update from Ayush is ready for sharing!
- Ayush’s #GoalsProject Week 3-4 Share Your Idea video
- Learn more about Ayush and his work: website and @WizardAyush on Twitter
In the video, Ayush talks about the power of sharing a message. Engage students in a conversation to think on ways they may want to amplify the story of their Class Goal Project. Perhaps they want to share with the school in a school-wide presentation or in the school newsletter. Maybe they want to share the idea out with the community or local policy makers.
Here are some ideas to “welcome” the new Goals into your class (Note: classrooms may decide to take several weeks or months to complete this step--no rush):
- Review each Class Project getting to know the shared Goal and the class who shared.
- Make a visual representation of learning as each Goal arrives. Examples include:
- Global Goals Paper Chain (via World’s Largest Lesson)
- Send a letter or video message to each of the classes in your group to thank them for their project and share how their ideas impacted your thinking.
- Global Goals bead chain (via Goals Project Group 5 participants Heather Cooke and Christine Alexander)
- Global Goals Paper Chain (via World’s Largest Lesson)
Week 2 Message:
Welcome to Week 2 of the #GoalsProject! Now over 1,500 participating classrooms across the world!
Wow, what a week! It is remarkable to see the excitement building around the Global Goals, particularly as it is the beginning of the school year for many. Now that we have had our “virtual handshake,” we are ready to dive into creating our individual class projects!
Classroom objectives this week:
Objective 1: Reflect on Week 1 Learning
Objective 2: Hear from Your Project Student Ambassador
Our Week 2 #GoalsProject Student Ambassador Update from Ayush is ready for sharing!
Objective 3: Dive into your Class Goal Project
Within your group, your class has one dedicated Global Goal. You and your students are invited “to meet” this Goal through a process of inquiry (invite students to ask questions, share perspectives, engage in discussion and research) and create a CLASS PROJECT around the Goal.
All ideas are welcome! Some classes may choose to create a presentation, a story, a video, a collection of photos, an art project, a song, an invention, a social good campaign, a mock city, a garden, create an eBook, and on and on!
Final projects will be shared via Google Form to your facilitator/group, so in the end you will need to have a shareable link or file (e.g. YouTube video link, Google folder, PDF, etc). Plan to share your project and receive the 16 others from your group members during Weeks 3-4 (more information on how to submit back to your group coming in the Week 3 update next weekend).
Please share updates on social media during this next week by using the project hashtag #GoalsProject! We love seeing the videos, photos, and messages of students taking action for people and planet through the Goals!
Looking ahead:

- Share related videos:
- Share about the #GoalsProject and look at the map of the classrooms around the world joining in

- Share that your classroom will have one Goal. Build excitement and suspense by letting students make predictions, guesses, and wishes. Reveal your Class Goal by placing the Goal number (or printed icon) in a sealed envelope or in a wrapped box. Reveal the Goal and celebrate!

Welcome Message:
Hi Goals Project teacher!
Hope you have had a nice August! We are looking forward to kicking off the Goals Project in a little over a week on September 1st, and we are thrilled to welcome you as a participating classroom!
As we launched news of the Goals Project in May, we never imagined we would have such an extraordinary response. Currently, almost 900 classes from 69 countries have registered to join. We will be leaving the registration open for a few more days to ensure that anyone who wants to join has an opportunity to participate.
Goal of Project:
During the month of September, global classrooms will join on a team of 17 total classrooms--each assigned one of the Sustainable Development Goals. You will have a Team Facilitator guiding the way and each week you will receive updates and reminders.
The activities will be to create (1) a message introducing your class and (2) a project representative of your goal. Introduction messages and projects will be shared back with the other group classes---so, you will share your project and receive back 16 others from around the world!
Groups:
We currently have 52 groups of 17 divided by age. Here is the current breakdown
Introduction Message:
During Week 1 and 2, you will be guided to create an introduction message with your classroom for a virtual handshake. You will receive more information on this soon, but if you want to start thinking on it--messages can be in any form you and your class choose: video, audio, hands-on, coding, story, photograph, letter. Creativity and cultural connections encouraged!
Global Goal Project:
In the next few days, your Team Facilitator will be emailing you to say hello! You will also find out your Class Global Goal! Will it be SDG 13: Climate Action? Maybe SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals? Maybe SDG 2: Zero Hunger! The anticipation is building!
Once you receive your Class Global Goal, you will have three weeks to work with your class to research the Goal and create a project on that specific Goal that you will be invited to share back with your team. This is an opportunity to showcase the talents, interests, and cultures represented in you classroom and community. All ideas for projects are welcome: art, inventions, research presentations, music, technology, experiment, video, theatre, interviews, photo book, language activity. Make it personal; invite in inquiry and exploration! Watch for more information on this coming up next week!
Remove barriers!
The Goals Project is designed to be for everyone! Anyone, anywhere; those with past experience with the Sustainable Development Goals or new altogether to global collaboration. We want it to be fun, free of barriers, and not a drain on time! It is meant to be a start of a conversation around the Global Goals and social good. Some classes will take an hour to get their project set and others may choose to go deeper. Mainly, just know any level of participation is welcome, and we are here to help every step of the way!
A Year of ACTION!
This project is a great introduction into the Global Goals and global collaboration and can prepare students for taking action on social good at local and global levels. After the Goals Project, we have several other opportunities coming up, and as a Goals Project classroom, you will be invited to join them all (all optional):
Next Steps:
If you have any questions at all, please be sure to contact your Team Facilitator or email/message me anytime!
